History
Manglisi is one of the ancient Georgian cities. In the IV century was part of the principality of Kartli . Not far from Manglisi, the Didgore Battle took place in 1121, in which the Georgian troops defeated the Turkish invaders [3] . It was founded on December 6, 1824, by the Russian grenadiers of the 13th Life Grenadier Erivan Regiment , on the southern outskirts of the destroyed monastery of the Georgian Orthodox Church.
Climate
Manglisi has a mild climate: there are almost no winds, a large number of sunny days, an average annual temperature of + 8.7 ° С, and an average summer temperature of + 18.4 ° С. A mountain climate resort was organized here, in 1953 there were several sanatoriums [3] and pioneer camps. The comfortable climate and the presence of pine groves contributed to the treatment of patients with asthma. The local population was engaged in gardening and animal husbandry. For the period of 1988 the number of cattle reached 500 heads. In the vicinity of Manglisi the Algeti River flows. On one of its steep shores, the legendary cave of Arsen (local Robin Hood) is preserved. To the north of the village stands the beautiful Sheehan Mountain.
Neighborhood
The surroundings of Manglisi are rich in raspberries, blackberries, dogwoods, hazelnut and sea buckthorn. Mushrooms grow in the forest: white mushrooms, mushrooms, gray row, chanterelles. Mushrooms grow on the hillsides covered with thyme.
Manglisi from 1830 to 1988 was inhabited by Russians. these were the servicemen of the tsarist and Soviet army and the Molokans (expelled from the Russian provinces by the decree of the Empress) and the Greeks. The number of Georgians was small. They lived mainly in the mountains in small villages and came to Manglisi on weekends to a fair.
After 1991, the main population - Georgians, displaced people from nearby villages and refugees from Svaneti. The outflow of Russians and Greeks coincided with the collapse of the USSR.
