Biography
His father, Otto Donner, was a senator and professor of Sanskrit and comparative linguistics at the University of Helsingfors ; in 1883 founded the Finno-Ugric Society .
In 1909, Kai Donner, together with Bronislaw Malinowski studied anthropology at the University of Cambridge under the guidance of his father.
In 1911-1914, he undertook two expeditions to Siberia , where he studied Samoyed peoples , however, due to the outbreak of the First World War, he was forced to return to his homeland.
Upon returning to Finland, he organized a student enrollment for military training in Germany . He was one of the activists of the jaeger movement . After the end of the Civil War, he took part in a military campaign in East Karelia .
Since 1924 - Associate Professor, Department of Uralic Languages, University of Helsinki .
Donner published four extensive works on ethnography, was a pioneer of new methods in anthropology, and brought to the scientific world the culture of previously poorly studied peoples.
