The effect of the drug and its history
The action of the drug is based on the slow release of elemental iodine from the complex compound, iodine adduct and some high molecular weight organic substances. The first drug of this type was the so-called Blue Iodine. The effect of turning a brown alcohol solution of iodine into blue when mixed with starch has been known for a very long time, but for the first time this complex was used by V.O. Mokhnach for therapeutic purposes. V.O. Mokhnach was in forced labor camps of the Office of the North-Eastern Labor Camps of the Gulag of the USSR in 1940-1941; there, during an epidemic of dysentery, he first applied a mixture of an alcoholic solution of iodine and potato peelings to treat patients. Back in the 50s. Mokhnach prepared a series of studies of iodine antiseptics, called "Iodine starch", "amyloiodine".
Properties
Transparent liquid of dark blue color , characteristic odor .
Dosage Forms
- An aqueous solution (1%) for external and internal use (contains iodine 0.1 g, potassium iodide 0.3 g, starch 1 g; distilled water 100 ml).
Application
Indications
Iodine deficiency, colds and viral diseases of the respiratory tract, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract (heartburn, constipation, indigestion, poisoning, diarrhea). A wide range of applications Chronic tonsillitis , purulent otitis media , purulent surgical diseases, trophic and varicose ulcers , thermal and chemical burns .
Dosage and administration
The standard regimen for the use of amyloiodine or blue iodine inside: take 8 teaspoons 1 time per day 30 minutes after a meal, washed down with simple jelly. The course of treatment is 5 days, then another 5 days - a break.
With iodine deficiency, the optimal dose is 5 teaspoons of blue iodine per day, and the course of treatment is five days. They take blue iodine always after eating, after about 20-30 minutes.
Locally. In chronic tonsillitis, tonsils lacunae and supratonsillar space are washed (50 ml), 4-5 washes with an interval of 2-3 days; with purulent otitis media, 5-8 drops are instilled into the ear daily for 2-4 weeks; with atrophic rhinitis, after preliminary softening and removal of the crusts, they are inhaled into the nasal cavity and pharynx 2-3 times a week for 2-3 months; with trophic and varicose ulcers, purulent wound surfaces and infected burns, purulent fistulas, loose gauze dressings impregnated with the drug are applied.
Side effect
Iodism (with prolonged use). With too small daily doses (about 1 teaspoon), pathogens can develop resistant strains, so the minimum dosage is prescribed from 5 teaspoons for an adult.
Storage
In the dark place
