History

Johan Van Roy began playing electronic music as part of the Suicide Commando project in 1986 .

Two years later, in 1988 , the first Suicide Commando audio cassette saw the light, and one of the songs hit the electronic vinyl collection.

In the period from 1989 to 1992 , seven more tapes were released and the first track in the "international" format - on the collection "Rotation II" of the German label Kugelblitz Records . A year later, this record company included the song Suicide Commando in another collection. Then the group gives its first concert performance, having played at the opening act of Plastic Noise Experience and releases the ninth cassette, which became the last in the history of the project. The track "Never Get Out" becomes the first club hit.

In 1994 , Suicide Commando entered into a contract with OffBeat, a German label , and released its first Critical Stage CD, which featured club hits such as Traumatize and Necrophilia for the first time. Starting from this album, the band’s music becomes harder and richer, without losing melancholy, the lyrics are gloomy and laconic. The songs talk about schizophrenia , fears, serial killers, the approach of death and necrophilia [1] . In addition to Johan himself, Dive Dirk Ivens also took part in the album, acting as the vocalist and author of the text in the song “Where do we go from here? ".

In 1995 , the second disc of the group “ Stored Images ” was released , which included the song “See You In Hell!” , Which brought Suicide Commando considerable popularity and still remains the first hit and a kind of “visiting card” of the group.

In 1996 , in honor of a decade of creative activity, the anniversary tour starts, after which the EP “ Contamination ” appeared on the shelves, published in two versions at once: ordinary and festive. At concerts at that time, Van Roy was assisted by David Kirrell (Pierrepoint) and Geert Helvet (Frames A Second) , or his girlfriend Tanya Richter (Tanja Richter) .

In 1997 , the group performs at the legendary Zillo festival in front of a five thousandth audience. Through the EDT label, Suicide Commando albums enter the US market.

In 1998 , Suicide Commando released the next album in two versions: standard, called “ Construct / Destruct ” and limited - “Reconstruction” , which contains, in addition to the main material, remixes from various well-known groups, in particular, wumpscut:, Pierrepoint , Plastic Noise Experience and Dive . In the US, the album is released by Possessive Blindfold Recordings . This is followed by the Conquering Europe Tour concert tour together with the American project Velvet Acid Christ .

In 1999 , the demographic compilation Chromdioxyde I was released — a compilation of unpublished material recorded between 1988 and 1994. In the same year, Van Roy became one of the founders of the label Dependent Records , leaving OffBeat [2] .

In May 2000 , the first single from the new album “Comatose Delusion” was released , followed by the second single “Hellraiser” - one of the most significant hits by Suicide Commando, and already in October the group will present the fourth studio full-length album “ Mindstrip ” . This album and both of the preceding singles quickly escaped to the top of the German Deutsche Alternative Charts . Mindstrip was later licensed and published in North America by Metropolis Records and received positive reviews. At the end of 2000, the band went on a Germany Mindstripping 2000 concert tour.

In 2001 , the EP “Love Breeds Suicide” was released with the new song “Dein Herz, Meine Gier” as a b-side .

In 2003 , the American debut of Suicide Commando - the album " Axis of Evil " . Starting from this album, the style of the music of the group becomes more danceable. In the same year, the double single “Face Of Death” was released , the limited edition of which was sold out in two days. Axis of Evil was named the album of the year (2003) by the Deutsche Alternative chart. Later, in 2004, Suicide Commando released another double single, “Cause of Death: Suicide / One Nation Under God,” which sold out in a limited edition.

The year 2006 was marked by the release of the new album " Bind, Torture, Kill " , as well as the single "Godsend / Menschenfresser" . “ Bind, Torture, Kill ” has won high positions in many alternative charts around the world and has been recognized as the album of the month in the German magazine Orkus . Released on Johan’s own label Noise Terror Productions (a new division of Dependent Records ), it is also available in a limited edition, which includes a bonus disc, poster and sticker.

In early 2007 , as part of the group’s twentieth anniversary, a limited box set called “X20” was released . This special edition consists of three CDs and DVDs, which contain recordings of live performances, as well as unique group photographs and a special surprise. The first CD is a collection of selected songs, the second contains remixes of songs by some famous musicians of the EBM and dark electro genres, and the third is the new EP “Fuck You Bitch” . The remix CD and "Best of" were later released as separate discs on Metropolis Records .

In 2008 , work begins on material for the new album. At the same time, the Noise Terror Productions label closes.

In May 2009 , Van Roy announced that he had signed a contract with Out Of Line to release material in Europe . In 2009, two new singles were released - Until We Die / Severed Head and Die Motherfucker Die , preceding the new, eleventh album, released in late January 2010 . The album was called " Implements Of Hell " , mastering was engaged in Jan Lehmkamper ( X-Fusion / Noisuf-X ). Aggro-dance-oriented modern sounding of heavy and gloomy synthesizers, made in the best traditions of the classic dark electro, provided the album with positive reviews and high positions in alternative charts. The album itself has become more complex in sound, with more interesting and professional arrangements. It was released in three different editions: 2xCD and 3xCD with a limited edition of 2000 and 1000 copies, respectively, as well as a regular edition with one disc. Limited editions of the album include a bonus disc with remixes, and the 3xCD version, published specifically for fans, contains the bonus single “God Is In The Rain” , a T-shirt, a set of stickers and an owner’s certificate with a serial number. At this time, the concert lineup of the group is as follows: Mario Varevik (Insekt) at the drums, Torben Schmidt (Lights Of Euphoria) and Jan Lemkemper ( X-Fusion ) on the keys [3] .

In 2011 , Johan returns to business with the new World Wide Electronics label. The first release of the label was the collection of electronic music "World Wide Electronics volume 1" [4] .

In July 2012, the group will present fans a new single, “ Attention Whore ” . Work has begun on a new full-length album called “ When Evil Speaks ” . The release of the album is scheduled for early 2013 [5] .

On May 3, 2013 , Out of Line Records hosted the European release of When Evil Speaks . The American edition took place on May 14 at Metropolis Records .

In 2015 , the band returned with the new single “The Pain That You Like” (featuring Jean-Luc Demeira from Front 242 as a guest vocalist), the release of which is scheduled for release in 2016. .

The sound of Suicide Commando for many years remains recognizable: aggressive EBM, "evil" distorted vocals, grating melodies and rhythms.
