Juan Cabral de Melo Neto ( port. João Cabral de Melo Neto ; January 9, 1920, Recife - October 9, 1999, Rio de Janeiro ) - Brazilian poet and diplomat, one of the most important figures of late Brazilian modernism.

Biography

In 1940 he entered the circle of metropolitan avant-garde poets ( Jorge di Lima , Carlos Drummond de Andrade ). In 1946 he entered the diplomatic service, where he spent his life. At the end of the 1940s he lived and worked in Barcelona , became close friends with Miro , Juan Brossa and other members of the Dau al Set group : Tapies , Couchart .

Creativity

In poetry, he gravitated towards objectivist, impersonal poetics ( Mallarmé , Valerie ) and strict forms, which gave critics a reason to talk about his peculiar constructivism .
