Creation History
During the Great Patriotic War, the script writer of the film Suliko Zhgenti went to the front as a volunteer, served in the amphibious assault forces , was seriously wounded and was awarded four medals. Suliko spoke about a colleague who became the prototype of the protagonist - the Bodbishevsky collective farmer, who fought with him in one unit. Despite the years, the old man had remarkable strength. Pitying the young soldiers, he took the machine gun from them and carried it several kilometers on his shoulders. In the division, he was a universal favorite. To the soldiers the old man replaced his father, it happened, he screened yesterday's boys from bullets. The scriptwriter retained the protagonist his real name - Georgy Makharashvili.
The script writer recalled how in the spring of 1942, the sounds of a Georgian melody were awakened by Novorossiysk sleeping in the dugout fighters: George Makharashvili sang. Loosening the earth with a bayonet, he sowed wheat. The soldiers looked in surprise at their fellow soldiers. “Spring is coming, spring ...” sang the old man, noticing anyone.
He was patronized by George and Suliko Zhenti himself. After receiving news that his son was in the hospital, his father went to visit Suliko, but did not find him in the infirmary. This real story formed the basis of the script of the film. [2]
Recognition
In a village in Kakheti, where Georgy Makharashvili was born, a monument was erected to this hero. In addition, there is the Museum of Glory, around which are tombstones with the names of the villagers who died in the war. According to these plates, it is clear that about 40% of the soldiers who did not return from the war bore the surname Makharashvili.
