Leyla Mahat kyzy Vekilova ( azerb. Leyla Mahad qızı Vəkilova ; January 29, 1927 , Baku - February 20, 1999 , Baku ) - Azerbaijani Soviet ballerina , choreographer, teacher. People's Artist of the USSR ( 1967 ).

Biography

In 1943 she graduated from the Baku Choreographic School (teacher - Gamer Almaszadeh ). In 1945 - 1946 she improved at the Moscow Choreographic School .

Since 1943 - soloist of the Azerbaijan Opera and Ballet Theater named after M.F. Akhundov . Since 1972 - the tutor of the theater.

Since 1953 she taught classical dance lessons at the Baku Choreographic School, since 1992 - the artistic director of this educational institution, since 1996 - professor. Member of the CPSU since 1955 [2] .

Has toured abroad ( Poland (1956, 1962, 1968), Syria (1960), Czechoslovakia (1964), India (1965), Bulgaria (1966), France (1969, 1974), Hungary (1973), Italy (1976), Turkey (1977, 1982), Georgia (1979), Germany (1979), Nepal (1981).

In 1976 - 1982 - the head of the Dance Ensemble of Azerbaijan.

She starred in a number of films.

Died on February 20, 1999 . She was buried in the Alley of Honor in Baku .
