Docking module of the Mir space station

The docking module on board the Space Shuttle Atlantis STS-74 , before docking with the "World"

The docking module was the sixth module docked to the Mir station . It was delivered to orbit by Shuttle Atlantis on November 12, 1995 during the STS-74 mission. The module together with the Shuttle docked at the station on November 15th .

Description

The docking module was designed to simplify the docking of the Shuttle with the station, according to the Mir-Shuttle program. The module carried two docking units - modified APAS-89. APAS No. 3 - for docking with the Crystal module, and APAS No. 2 for the ASAS No. 1 docking of the Space Shuttle Orbiter [1] . The module also had its own thermal control, television transmitter and telemetry systems.
