Biography

She was born on January 6 ( January 19 ), 1910 in Tiflis (now Tbilisi , Georgia ) (according to other sources - in Baku [2] ).

In 1922 - 1927 she studied at the State Ballet School at the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theater (now the Tbilisi Choreographic School) with M. I. Perini . After graduation, she was accepted into the troupe of the theater, danced in the corps de ballet , then performed solo dance parties.

In 1937, Nina Ramishvili had to leave the Opera and Ballet Theater. The reason was the denunciation of one of the leading ballerinas, who accused Nino of striving to poison her. He writes about this episode in his book “The Fate of Beauty. History of Georgian Wives ”writer and journalist Igor Obolensky :

In her letter to the NKVD, the woman even indicated how Nino can do this - pour poison into a bottle of milk, which the ballerina left behind the scenes during a rehearsal. “She herself will do this, and everything will be blamed on me,” Ramishvili reasoned and filed a letter of resignation.

In 1937 - 1945 (with a break) - the leading dancer of the Folk Dance Ensemble of the Tbilisi Philharmonic . In 1939 - 1941 - soloist of the Song and Dance Ensemble of the NKVD USSR .

In 1945 , together with her husband, People's Artist of the USSR I.I. Sukhishvili , she founded the Georgian Folk Dance Ensemble and worked in it for the rest of her life, for a long time remaining as a soloist (until 1972 ) and artistic director, staged dance numbers.

In 1968, the group became the first folk dance ensemble to perform on the stage of the famous La Scala opera house ( Milan , Italy ).

Her best productions (“Horumi”, “Collective Farm Dance”, “Narnari”, “Samaia”, “Svan Dance”, etc.) were marked by plasticity and graphic accuracy, skillful use of dance folklore of Georgia. Through her work, Nina Shalvovna made an invaluable contribution to the culture of Georgia .

Together with the ensemble she toured in Hungary , Austria , Denmark , Italy , the USA and others.

She died on September 6, 2000 . She was buried in Tbilisi in the Didubian pantheon .
