Biography
Born in the town of Orhei of the Chisinau county of Bessarabia in 1902 . From 16 years old, he worked as an assistant operator, since 1920 - director of photography at the film studios of VUFKU ( Odessa ), Sovkino and Soyuzkino ( Leningrad ), Mezhrabpomfilm and Mosfilm ( Moscow ), since 1935 - at Armenfilm ( Yerevan ), since 1938 - at Azerfilm , Baku film studio and Azerbaijanfilm ( Baku ), Georgia-film ( Tbilisi ) [2] .
One of the founders of Armenian cinema, director of photography of the first sound Armenian film “ Pepo ” (1935) [3] . As an operator, he worked with such directors as Abram Rome (“ Uhabs ”, “ 3rd Meshchanskaya ”, “A Ghost That Will Not Return ”), Vasily Sakhnovsky (“ Krestovik ”), Grigory Roshal (“ Petersburg Night ”), Nikolai Shpikovsky ( “ A Cup of Tea ”), Vera Stroeva (“ Petersburg Night ”), Mikhail Yanshin (“ Black Hut ”, script by Ilf and Petrov ), Julius Raizman (“ Last Night ”), Joseph Tumanov ( “David Guramishvili” ), Alexander Rowe ( " The mystery of the mountain lake "), Michael Chiaureli ( " Otarova widow "), Kurbas ( " Dream Tolstopuzenko ") Siko Dolidze ( " Song of Eteri "), Ser s Yutkevich ( " Bed and Sofa ," script Victor Shklou ) [4] . In the encyclopedic dictionary “Cinema” edited by S. I. Yutkevich (1987) it is indicated as “one of the leading Soviet operators” [5] [6] .
He was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor (04/14/1944) and medals. Suddenly died during the filming of the film "Artist" directed by Arman Manaryan (Armenfilm) based on the eponymous novel by Alexander Shirvanzade in Odessa in 1963 [3] [7] . He was buried in Yerevan .

Wife - Armenian Soviet actress Tatyana Lvovna Makhmuryan (1910-1989), who starred as Kekel in his film "Pepo". Daughter - Elizabeth Feldman [8] .
