Born March 25, 1908 in Croydon , a suburb of London , in a family of Quakers . Parents forbade Lina to visit the cinema when he was a child [4] .

In 1927, he found work at a film studio, worked as an assistant director, then became an editor. In 1934 he made his debut as an editor of a feature film in the film Freedom of the Seas . By 1942, Lin managed to work in more than twenty films and had a good reputation as an editor.

The first directorial work is the film “ In Which We Serve ” ( 1942 ), co-produced with Noel Coward . In 1947, he became one of the founders of the BAFTA Academy and was elected its chairman.

In 1955, Lin directed his first color film, Summer , filmed with money from American producers in Venice . After the film “ Daughter of Ryan ” ( 1970 ), which was a modest success, Lin stopped directing until 1984 , when the film “ Trip to India ” was released, which became the last work of the director.
