Biography

Born on January 1, 1838 in Tiflis , his father was Major General Ivan P. Markozov, Chairman of the Military Judicial Commission at the Tiflis Commandant's Office.

He began his service on August 2, 1854 as a cadet in the Nizhny Novgorod Dragoon Regiment and, in his ranks, took part in the Crimean War and in battles with the mountaineers . For distinction in the storming of Kars, Markozov on September 13, 1855 was promoted to warrant officer .

At the end of the Crimean War, Marozov continued his military service in the ranks of the Caucasian troops and in 1857, for his distinction against the Highlanders, he was awarded his first military order - St. Anna 4th degree. June 9, 1858 promoted to lieutenant. In 1859, commanding a squadron of the Seversky Dragoon Regiment , Markozov participated in the storming of Gunib . February 20, 1861 received the rank of captain and September 5, 1862 - captain.

In 1867 he graduated from the course of the Nikolaev Academy of the General Staff , while studying at the Academy on June 19, 1866 he was promoted to Majors .

Upon transfer to the General Staff with production as captains of the General Staff, Markozov was appointed to the Caucasian Military District on May 20, 1868, where he occupied the position of senior adjutant of the headquarters of the 39th Infantry Division . From March 31, 1870, he was a senior aide to the headquarters of the Caucasian Military District, and on August 30 of the same year he was promoted to lieutenant colonel.

In 1871, Markozov was sent to Krasnovodsk to command a special detachment and replaced Colonel Stoletov in this post. February 22, 1872 received the rank of colonel.

In the summer of 1872, it was decided to conquer the Khiva khanate ; it was supposed to organize the movement of marching columns from several points: Mangyshlak , Orenburg , Fort Perovsky , Dzhizak and Krasnovodsk , the last column was assigned to Markozov. From May 4 to June 7 of the same year, Markozov was formally listed as the Chief of Staff of the 39th Infantry Division .

First of all, Markozov was concerned with the intelligence of the Karakum , however, it was not possible to advance further than Lake Sarykamysh because of the unrest of the Turkmen-Tekins in the rear of the detachment. After restraining the recalcitrant Turkmens, Marcozov occupied the Caspian Sea coast south from Krasnovodsk to Chekishlyar and the mouth of the Atrek River, and at the beginning of 1873 on Atrek , he withstood a serious battle with the Persians under Turkmen . In the autumn, when trying to make a secondary inspection of the intended route of the detachment to Khiva through the Kara Kum, however, at the wells of Jemal Markozov he met a strong Turkmen detachment, which only after a stubborn battle and subsequent bayonet attack of the infantry of the Kabardian regiment , retreated into the sands; however, further exploration was out of the question.

For the successful exploration of the desert between Krasnovodsk and Sarakamysh and the occupation of Chekishlyar and lands up to the Atrek River, he was promoted to colonel in 1872, and for the defeat of the Tekinians under Jemal was awarded the Order of St.. Vladimir 3rd degree with swords.

In February 1873, the Krasnovodsk detachment marched towards Khiva. The questioning information about the Karakum wells, further Sarykamysh, turned out to be largely false, and the detachment in terrible heat ( Terentyev directly reports that from the heat “all the thermometers burst”) practically without water was stuck in the sands in the Orta-kuya tract. April 22 Markozov was forced to give the order to return the squad back.

Upon his return to Krasnovodsk, Markozov was removed from the command of the detachment and accused of the disaster of the Krasnovodsk detachment; as a result, he retired, but after the results of the reconnaissance of the Skobelev wells in the Karakum Desert became known, all charges were dropped and on August 14, 1874, Markozov returned to service.

In 1875 he was appointed commander of the 128th Starooskolsky Infantry Regiment , with which he participated in the Turkish campaign . October 31, 1878 promoted to major generals (with seniority of May 15, 1883) and appointed as inspector of hospitals acting against the Turkish army, then was at the disposal of the commander of the Kiev military district . On October 21, 1881, he was appointed Chief of Staff of the 12th Army Corps , on April 18, 1891 - Commander of the 2nd Brigade of the 6th Infantry Division , and on October 5, 1892 - Commander of the 2nd Infantry Division , on August 30, 1893, promoted to general lieutenants with the approval of the divisional head.

February 28, 1897 promoted to generals from infantry with dismissal from service for the disease with the uniform and pension. He died March 26, 1906 in Pavlovsk, near St. Petersburg .
