Geography

The Congo Basin has a flat, swampy bottom at an altitude of 300-500 m. The highest mountains are the Adamaua Plateau in Cameroon (up to 3008 m) and the Cameroon volcanic massif (up to 4040 m). However, mainly for Central Africa is characterized by a calm relief, without much hesitation. Near-equatorial Africa, especially the Congo Basin, has the most dense network of full-flowing rivers in Africa, the largest of which is the Congo (Zaire) River. The Ogove , Kwanza and others rivers also flow into the Gulf of Guinea. Huge spaces are occupied by swamps. In the belt of the equatorial climate, thick multi-tiered moist tropical forests grow . In the subequatorial zone there are gallery forests ; savannas of various types are widespread on the watershed. At the mouths of the rivers flowing into the Gulf of Guinea , mangroves are widespread.
