Being 19 years old, he wrote an essay on the theory of perspective, which attracted the attention of geometers. Subsequently, he was a professor in Leiden , where he actively disseminated and developed the idea of Newton . The device described in physics courses, consisting of a ring and a ball, which serves to demonstrate expansion when heated, was introduced by Gravezand. He was the first to set up a heliostat .
