Biography
Ben's childhood passed in the city of Fairfield , Connecticut , in a Jewish family. Ben's paternal grandmother emigrated from Russia in 1923 and settled in the Boston area [1] . From the age of eight he participated in productions in school performances, at the age of 10 he took part in a school production, which was presented in one of the four city theaters of Fairfield . At age 11, Ben starred in the musical "You Are a Good Man, Charlie Brown." The following year, at age 12, he made his debut as a playwright and director of the play , which he himself wrote, and which took second place in the Connecticut State Young Talent Competition. Later, a play was staged in the city theater, and Ben himself played the main role in it. At the age of 14, Foster began to study at the acting courses for gifted children of the Interlochen Theater Arts Summer Program Interlochen, in Michigan , after graduating, at the age of 14, leaving school he left for Los Angeles , where he began his acting career in film.
Career
In 1995, Ben recorded some of his home reprise on an audio cassette and sent it to Los Angeles casting specialist Cecilia Adams. After listening to the recording, Adams called his parents and said that they should immediately send his son to Los Angeles for film screenings. The next day, Foster was already in Los Angeles, and the debut in his film career was the role of Travis in the film " Fake " in 1996 . Ben played a funny spontaneous boy who so amused the protagonist with his antics that he invited Travis to join him and his guests at a pool party.
The next step was the role of James Tucker in the Disney Channel television series, Recognizing the Future, which became a cult among teenagers. Ben Foster received two Gemini Awards for his role as Tucker .
In 1998, Foster was offered the role of a teenage killer in the NBC movie " I was waiting for you ." Then there was a prominent role in the semi-autobiographical film directed by Barry Levinson's “ Heights of Freedom ” about the life of the American town of Baltimore in the 1950s, where Foster played with Adrian Brody . The young actor deftly portrayed a rebellious teenager named Ben , who dressed up as Hitler for Halloween and, contrary to morality in the 1950s, was in love with a black classmate (Rebecca Johnson). The prototype of the character of Ben Foster was the cousin of Barry Levinson Eddie. After The Heights of Freedom, Foster appeared in two episodes of the NBC channel series Freaks and Nuts , where he played a mentally retarded student named Eli . Later, the series was closed.
Foster returned to the big screen in 2001 when he played with Kirsten Dunst and Sisqo in the youth comedy Virus of Love . The hero of Foster is Burke Lenders , the star of the school basketball team, from whom the girl leaves, and whom he is trying to return throughout the film, but in the end understands that happiness has been around all this time in the face of the younger sister of his best friend (Dunst).
In 2001, Foster was supposed to play the role of Jamie Smith in the movie Black Hawk , but due to the serious injury he received in preparation for the film, he was replaced by Charlie Hofheimer . Instead of Jamie Smith, Ben starred in Big Trouble . Then came “ North fork ” - an unusual fairy tale by the brothers Michael and Mark Polish, in 2004 “The Punisher ” with John Travolta , based on the comic books of John Romit and Ross Andrew . In 2003, there was “ Buck-and-go, you're dead ” about the problems of violence in American schools. For playing the role of Trevor Adams, Foster received a daily Emmy Award .
Ben Foster’s breakthrough in the film career can be considered the 2005 film “ Hostage, ” where Ben very convincingly played the young psychopath Mars Krapchek with a vicious, in the words of one of the critics , gleam in his eyes and at the same time gloomy sensuality in his gaze.
The film itself did not cause much enthusiasm among the audience, but critics called the game of Foster the main reason for watching the " Hostage ", they started talking about Ben as a very talented, promising young actor. During the filming of the scene with fire in the film “ Hostage, ” Ben was nearly killed by a real Molotov cocktail due to a gas leak from the bottle [2] .
Personal life
Foster met with actress Antje Traue , a colleague in the film Pandorum . They broke up in 2010 [3] . In early 2012, Foster began dating actress Robin Wright [4] . In early 2014, they announced their engagement, but canceled it in November of that year [5] . They resumed relations in early 2015, but in August of that year they announced the cancellation of the second engagement and the final separation [6] [7] .
In October 2016, Foster announced his engagement to actress Laura Prepon [8] . In January 2017, it became known that the couple was expecting the birth of their first child [9] , and in August of the same year they had a daughter, Ella [10] [11] . Foster and Obon got married in June 2018 [12] .
