Biography

Ian Potkharst began his football career in the youth team of the VVA club from the city of Amsterdam . [2] In 1932, Jan, at the age of 14, was admitted to the youth composition of the Ajax Amsterdam. [2] Seven years later, Potkharst made his debut in the first team, this happened on March 5, 1939 in a match against the BCB , which ended in the victory of Ajax with a score of 3: 1. [2]

For more than thirteen years, Potharst played 237 matches for Ajax, won two Netherlands Championships in 1939 and 1947 , and also won the Netherlands Cup in 1943 . [2] In recent years, at Ajax, Jan was the captain of the club. In the Dutch national team, Potharst made his debut on May 12, 1946 in a match against the Belgian national team , which ended with a score of 6: 3 in favor of the Netherlands. In total, Jan spent 6 matches in the national team, Potharst played his last game on June 11, 1950 against Finland, which ended in a 4-1 victory for the Finns.

After completing his career as a player, Ian continued to work in the club as a member of the board of directors. From 1958 to 1963, Ian worked as a football commissioner, then Ian gave over fourteen years (from 1964 to 1988 ) working on the club’s council. In 1973, Potharst became an honorary member of the Ajax Club. [2] In 1995, Jan became an honorary participant during the opening of the De Tucomst sports complex, which is located near the Amsterdam Arena .

On September 6, 2008, Jan Pottharst died at the age of 90. [2]
