Efraim Zuroff ( born Efraim Zuroff ; born 1948 , New York ) is an Israeli historian of American origin. Head of the Jerusalem branch of the Simon Wiesenthal Center . Known for vigorous search for Nazi criminals. He criticizes the Baltic countries, believing that there is a refusal to bring to trial a number of Nazis in order to undermine historical assessments of the uniqueness of the Holocaust and to promote the equivalence of Nazi and communist crimes [1] [2] [3] .

Biography
Born in New York, graduated from Yeshiva University , a bachelor in history. He moved to Israel in 1970, at the Institute of Modern Jewry, Hebrew University, received a master's degree in the study of the Holocaust. He defended his dissertation on the Holocaust.
Publications
- 1994 - Occupation: Nazi-Hunter; The Continuing Search for the Perpetrators of the Holocaust : The book describes the difficulty in finding Nazi asylum seekers in the United States, Great Britain, Canada and Australia, and Zuroff’s role in the work of two organizations actively searching for these criminals, the Simon Wiesenthal Center and US Department of Justice .
- 2009 - Operation Last Chance: One Man's Quest to Bring Nazi Criminals to Justice : Tells of the campaign launched by Zuroff in 2002 to capture and hold Nazi criminals alive. The book has been translated into German, Hungarian, Serbian and Finnish.
Rewards
- In recognition of the efforts to hunt the Nazis and for the exploration of the Holocaust, Zuroff was nominated by President of Serbia Boris Tadic and members of the Serbian parliament as a candidate for the 2008 Nobel Peace Prize [4] .
- On January 22, 2009, the Novi Sad City Assembly awarded Zuroff the title of Honorary Citizen of the city in recognition of his merits in the struggle for the search and punishment of Nazi criminals [5] .
- On January 15, 2010, by a decree of the President of Croatia, Stepan Mesic, Zuroff was awarded the Order of Prince Trpimir for his contribution to the fight against historical revisionism and the strengthening of the anti-fascist foundations of Croatian statehood [6] .
- On February 16, 2017, President of Serbia Tomislav Nikolic handed the Gold Medal of Merit to Dr. Efraim Zuroff [7] for his “exceptional achievements” and his “dedicated dedication to defending the truth about the suffering of Jews, as well as Serbs, Gypsies and other peoples during World War II " [8] .
