History

In 1989, in the city of Agrigento, during the festival, the collective of the Russian choir folk song “Karagod” met with Irish singer and guitarist Jamie Winchester and Hungarian Chaba Lukas.

It was then that the hotel residents and future colleagues in the work suddenly heard " Oh, it's not evening ." The performance made a strong impression on rock musicians, and they suggested that the Russians create a joint group. Thus was born a new team "Baba Yaga."

In 1990, the debut album Baba Yaga was released. The second album was recorded and released in Hungary. The music of Baba Yagi interested the producer Leslie Mandoki and the German record company DSB. The collaboration resulted in Where Will Tou Go (sometimes also called Baba Yaga of the same name), recorded in Munich and Budapest in 1992 and launched in Europe in 1993.

The group's songs began to sound on the air of European radio stations. The power of music and the infectious fun radiated by the musicians allowed the band to tour extensively with concerts and take part in major festivals: Glastonbury (GB), Arezzo Wave (I), Rudolstadt, Koln, Open Ohr Mainz (G), D'Ete Nantes ( FR), Tilburg, Terschelling (NL), Kalaka Festival (HU) and others.

Of the album’s tracks, the song “So Ends Another Day” was best known. It was widely rotated by radio stations, in particular, Our Radio station and was used as a soundtrack in the 1995 Russian film “ Wolf Blood ”.

The last album, Secret Combination, was recorded in Budapest and Moscow. Released in Russia in 1999 (reprinted in 2002), in Hungary three years later. The 2002 Russian reissue differs from the European one in that it features the song “Day To Die” (“Black Raven”).

On August 24, 2008 at the A38 festival in Budapest, the last performance of the Baba Yaga band took place. Although there was no official announcement of the dissolution of the group, since then there has been no news of its activities.

In the 90s, Jamie Winchester worked as a music producer with several projects, in 2001 he founded a group called Boom-Boom Tátraival, which released two albums and broke up in 2002. In 2011, Boom-Boom teamed up again and gave several concerts.

In 2001, Winchester, together with Hungarian guitarist and keyboardist Robert Hrutka (R-Go, Rapulok, Lerch Istvan es baratai, Bon Bon) founded a group that released one album It's Your Life in the same year under the guise of Jamie Winchester & Hrutka Robert. In 2008, the band played a farewell concert at the Ugyan V'Moto-Rock festival.

In 2009, Jamie Winchester recorded the solo album The Crack Are Showing. In October 2012, Jamie Winchester returned to Ireland, where he continues to play music and periodically gives concerts with his group.

In February 2016, the Academia website named Secret Combination the best pop-rock album of 2016 [1] .
