Alexei Ivanovich Podberezkin (born February 7, 1953 , Moscow , USSR ) is a Soviet and Russian political scientist and politician , an expert on national security and military policy . Biography
Born February 7, 1953 in Moscow in a working class family.
He began his career in 1968 as an electrician at the Pamfilov Experimental Plant. He served in the Soviet Army , then worked in production.
Research Activities
He graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1979 . In 1981, he became the head of the group of scientific consultants of the Committee of Youth Organizations (KMO) of the USSR (held this position until 1985 ).
In 1982 he defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of historical sciences on the topic "A Critical Analysis of Bourgeois Concepts of the Importance of the Arms Race in the US Military-Political Strategy: 70s" (specialty - 07.00.05 "History of International Relations and Foreign Policy") [ 1] .
At the end of the institute, he was engaged in research work at the MGIMO of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1981 to 1985 - referent-head of the group of scientific consultants of the Committee of Youth Organizations (KMO) of the USSR . From 1985 to 1990, he was a senior researcher at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO) of the USSR Academy of Sciences and the Diplomatic Academy of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In 1990, at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR, he defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Historical Sciences on the topic "Modern US Military Doctrine and the Military-Political Aspects of International Security" [2] . In the same year, he quit the CPSU and initiated the creation of the Russian-American University (RAU), since 1991 - President of the RAU [3] . Since 1992 - President of the international non-governmental research and educational organization "RAU Corporation" [3] .
From June 2009 - to March 2015 - Vice-Rector of MGIMO for Scientific Work. Since March 2015 - Director of the Center for Military-Political Problems, Professor at MGIMO.
Podberyozkin is the author of about three hundred published works on international relations, disarmament, foreign and military policy, state building, the ideology of state patriotism, and national identity. He teaches at a number of institutes, including MGIMO at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since 1992, publishes the monthly analytical journal Observer Observer, and leads the scientific and publishing council.
Political Activities
From 1991 to 1993 he was an adviser, the head of a group of consultants of the Vice President of Russia Alexander Rutsky . In 1994, he created and headed the All-Russian Socio-Political Movement " Spiritual Heritage ", until 2001, he was chairman of the Central Council of the All-Russian Union of Political Movements "Spiritual Heritage". Later he was one of the leaders of the Socialist Unified Party of Russia (CEPR - Spiritual Heritage). In December 1995, he was elected to the State Duma of the second convocation, was a member of the Communist Party faction until August 1999, and was deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs. In August 1996, he became one of the initiators of the creation of the People's Patriotic Union of Russia , was elected co-chair of the NPSR (1996-1999).
In 2000, he ran for president of Russia , was nominated by an initiative group of citizens, including prominent figures of science, art, leaders of several public associations. In the elections held on March 26 of the same year, he received 0.13% of the vote of the voters who participated in the elections.
Since 2001 - Advisor to the Chairman of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation Sergey Stepashin , later (until November 2004 ) - First Deputy Director of the State Institute of System Analysis of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation. In December 2005, he was elected co-chair of the Social Justice Party (PSS) . In December 2007, he ran for the State Duma as a member of the federal troika of the PSS, but the party lost the election.
Now he is a member of the Presidium of the Independent Organization "Civil Society" and the National Civil Committee for interaction with law enforcement, legislative and judicial bodies.
