Olomouc cheese

Olomouc cheeses - a traditional strong-smelling Czech cheese made from sour cottage cheese in the vicinity of Olomouc (currently in the town of Lostice near Šumperk ). The European Commission granted the product PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) status in 2010.

The first mention dates back to 1452 , when curd cakes were called "rural curds." In the XIX century they began to be called "Olomouc", as they were sold on the Olomouc markets. The beginning of mass production of cheese in Lostica near Olomouc dates back to the same time.
