Description
In the adult state it gives a lot of shoots, which form quite massive, tightly compressed bushes up to 1 meter in diameter , thereby forming extensive colonies. The English name of the species is English. mother-of-hundreds (literally: mother of hundreds of children ) - indicates a very large fecundity.
The stem is at first single, spherical, gray-green, with a diameter of 8 to 10 cm, then strongly branched, in the group there are several tall plants up to 20 cm tall; the rest of the plants growing near these tall specimens are smaller - up to 8 cm tall. Papillae are short, hard, densely arranged. At the base of the cactus they are pyramidal, tetrahedral. Their tops are oval, with white hairs.
The spines of this species are diverse, most often have a white color; usually radial spines from 2 to 6, from 2 to 6 cm long. Central spines are absent, but sometimes plants with two central spines are found.
The flower looks like a bell 10-15 mm long and of the same diameter; flowers bloom in a garland around the center. They have a pink color. Fruits are club-shaped, red. Seeds are light brown.
Spread
