Formation Regiment
On November 22, 1805, the 23rd JΓ€ger Regiment was formed from battalions separated from the 18th and 19th Jaeger Regiments.
On January 28, 1833, during the general reform of the army, the battalions of the regiment were annexed to the Shlisselburg infantry regiment . In 1863, the second half of the Shlisselburg regiment went on to form the Ivangorod Infantry Regiment , in which seniority and insignia of the 23rd JΓ€ger Regiment were preserved.
Shelf Campaigns
Immediately after its formation, the regiment took part in the war of 1806-1807 against the French in East Prussia and distinguished himself in the battle of Friedland .
Sent at the end of the war with Sweden at the end of 1808, the regiment participated on February 18, 1809 in the occupation of the city of Christina, on February 28 - in the battle of the Leppavirt pickaxe, and on March 3 in the battle of Kuopio. On March 28, the 1st battalion of the regiment took part in reconnaissance of the approaches to Jacobstadg by Colonel Kulnev ; another battalion distinguished itself on April 4 in a rear-guard battle at the villages of Huppery, Viiret and Pigayoki, where the Swedish squad of Grippenberg was defeated; On April 6, the same battalion participated in the unsuccessful battle for Sikayoki for the Russian army. On June 26, the entire regiment distinguished itself in the case at Lappo, on August 5 - at Alavo, and on August 20 - in a stubborn battle with the pickaxe Kuortana and, finally, on August 7, 1809, the regiment participated in a bloody battle at Sevara.
During the Patriotic War of 1812, the 23rd Jaeger Regiment was part of the 5th Infantry Division of General Berg of the 1st Infantry Corps of Count Wittgenstein . On July 19, at the battle of Klyastitsy , the regiment attacked the village of Yakubovo, burst into it, but was driven out. On August 6, Berg's division took part in the battle of Polotsk . The grenadier company of the 2nd battalion was in the 1st combined grenadier battalion, which remained with its division. The reserve battalion was in the garrison of Riga .
In the campaign of 1813, the 23rd Jaeger Regiment, as part of the same 5th Infantry Division, distinguished himself on October 4 in the battle of Leipzig .
Regiment Insignia
Of the insignia, the 23rd Jaeger regiment had two silver trumpets with the inscription βIn retribution of excellent feats and especially in the battle of Leipzig β, granted on March 4, 1814. When the regiment was disbanded, both pipes were transferred to the Artillery Museum , and the Shlisselburg regiment received a regiment in exchange St. George banner with the inscription "For the difference in 1812, 1813 and 1814 against the French, especially under Leipzig"; also during the disbandment, the battalions of the 23rd regiment received badges for hats for lower ranks with the inscription βFor Distinctionβ, granted for equalization with the battalions of the Shlisselburg regiment.
