Nakhchivan, Ehsan Khan

Ehsan Khan of Nakhichevan (Kengerli) ( azerb. Ehsan xan Kəlbəli Xan oğlu Naxçıvanski (Kəngərli) ; 1789 - 1846) - ruler of the Nakhichevan khanate , major general of the Russian imperial army . Father of Russian generals Ismail Khan and Kelbali Khan of Nakhichevan.

In his youth he was in the Persian service. He participated in the Turkish-Persian war of 1821-1823. For honors awarded the title of Khan .

From 1822 to 1827, a sergeant (colonel) of the Shah army, commander of the Nakhichevan sarbaz battalion . He held the post of head of the dog hunting, the heir to the Persian throne, Prince Abbas Mirza . From the report of Major General Prince Madatov, Lieutenant General A. Velyaminov of November 1822 No. 959:

"Management of the Ordubad Magal, which in the Karadag province is now entrusted by the heir of Persia, Exan Khan, son of Kelb Ali Khan [1]"

"According to my information from abroad ...

... sat above. Ohchi, on the right bank of Chugundur, there are 300 people. sarbases from Nakhichevan run by Exan Khan, son of Nakhichevan Kelb Ali Khan [2]

During the Russian-Persian war of 1826-1828, by agreement with the Russian command, he surrendered the Abbas-Abad fortress to the Russian troops and switched to Russian service. [3] According to the testimony of Count Paskevich , commanding the Nakhichevan battalion of sarbaz in the fortress of Abbas-Abad, Ehsan Khan "rebelled against the rest of the garrison and thereby contributed to the surrender of the indicated fortress to our troops" [4] .

Ehsan Khan was awarded the rank of colonel of Russian service and he was appointed naib of the Nakhichevan khanate. May 1-2, 1829 took part in a meeting of the body of the deceased A. S. Griboedov when crossing the Araks and in Nakhichevan [5] . In May 1831 he was awarded the Order of St. Anne of the 2nd degree.

During a trip to the Caucasus in the fall of 1837, Emperor Nicholas I did a look at Kengerli's cavalry, which he described as follows:

"Having descended into the valley, I saw before me the incomparable cavalry of Kengerli, built in battle, in uniform robes and on wonderful horses; its chief Eskhan Khan, having jumped to me, reported in Russian, as though an officer of our regular troops. [6]"

On October 5, 1837 , Ehsan Khan was promoted to major general [7] .

In 1839 , under the pressure of the General Manager in the Caucasus, General E. A. Golovin, Ehsan Khan was forced to abandon the post of Naib. In compensation, he was appointed the marching ataman of the Kengerlin army, and later the military marching ataman of the Transcaucasian Muslim troops [8] .


Ehsan Khan died at the end of February 1846. Order of the Minister of War :

"St. Petersburg. February 26th day of 1846.

No. 46.

Major Military Ataman of the Transcaucasian Muslim Forces, Major General Aksan Khan, is excluded from the list of the deceased.
