Ribozymes containing hairpin structures ( eng. Hairpin ribozyme ) are RNA molecules that have the properties of enzymes . Like hammerhead ribozymes , ribozymes containing hairpin structures are found in plant viruses . [1] [2] For the first time, they were found in the satellite RNA of the negative chain of the tobacco virus with ring points ( TRSV , eng. Tobacco ringspot virus ), where such RNAs catalyze the self-cutting of the products of the replication of the virus RNA by the type of a rolling wheel . [3] Unlike other ribozymes that cut RNA, ribozymes containing hairpin structures are not dependent on metal ions.
