Coat of arms and flag
The coat of arms and flag of the district are approved and entered in the Moscow City Heraldry Register with assignment of a registration number on March 18, 2004.
The emblem of the district is a Moscow-shaped gold shield with blue stripes along the edges, in the center of which is an oil drop, inside of which there is a golden apple tree with seven apples on branches. The oil drop recalls the Moscow refinery located in the district, and the gold field is its success. The apple tree symbolizes the prosperity of the area, and apples are the fruits of the labor of local residents. The bands hint at the Moscow River , along which the southwestern borders of the region pass [13] .
Name Origin
The district got its current name in honor of the village of the same name , which was previously located on this territory. The name of the village is supposedly derived from the word “smoke” - the locals apparently engaged in fishing, and then they smoked a catch [14] .
History
On the territory of the modern district, the villages of Chagino and the village of Kapotnya were previously located.
The first mention of the village of Kapotnya (formerly the village of Kapotnensky) is found in a spiritual letter dated 1336 , according to which the great Moscow Prince Ivan Danilovich Kalita bequeathed to the eldest son - future prince Simeon Gordoi - the village of Kapotnensky, numbering at that time 150 peasant households (600-700 person): "... I gave you my great Semyon ... the village of Kopotenskoye ..." In the future, the village is often referred to in the spiritual letters of the Moscow princes Simeon the Proud , Ivan the Red , Dmitry Donskoy .
From the first half of the 15th century, the village belonged to the Nikolo-Ugreshsky Monastery , which was located nearby.
In the middle of the XVII century, a wooden church was built in Kapotna, subsequently replaced in 1789 by a stone church, which was consecrated in the same year on the feast of the Nativity and became known as the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary .
In the 1920s, the Moscow district was divided into three parts, one of which - Zamoskovskaya - in turn was divided into two. In the one located to the east of Moscow, the Kapotnensky camp was formed, so called by the name of the village.
Kapotnya later entered the Ukhtomsky district. In 1918, the village of Kapotnya was transformed into a village. As part of its historical planning, the village existed until the 1930s, and after the construction of an oil refinery near it in 1954, the village was renamed the “working village”. By the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the RSFSR No. 437 dated August 18, 1960, in connection with the construction of the ring road, it was introduced into the city line of Moscow [15]. It is considered the most dirty and environmentally unsafe area of the city of Moscow.
Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin
In the area there is the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary , which is part of the Blachernae deanery of the Russian Orthodox Church at the address: First Kapotninsky passage , 10. The temple was built in 1866-1870 on the site of a wooden church damaged by a hurricane. Made in pseudo-Russian style . Closed in 1938, returned to believers in 1991. The main throne is the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary [16] .

On the territory of the district is the Moscow oil refinery , which was put into operation on April 4, 1938. The company employs more than 4 thousand people.
