Biography

Born in Bialystok (now Poland ) in the family of second-hand bookmaker Abel Kushelevich Kaufman and Khai-Esther Rakhmielevna Halpern, who married there in 1894 [1] . Brother of film director Dzigi Vertov (David Kaufman) and American cameraman Boris Kaufman .

In the cinema since 1922. Until 1927, he worked with Dziga Vertov at Sovkino (Goskino-Central Newsreel Studio). Then he worked at the film studios of the Ukrainian SSR. In 1941-1977 - director of the film studio Mostechfilm-Tsentrnauchfilm.
