Description

The cap is 5-15 cm in size, fleshy, hemispherical or bell-shaped, flat-convex, with the edges turned down, gray-yellow, straw-yellow or ocher in color, striped along the edge. In young mushrooms, the hat is spherical or ovoid, straightens to a flat part with a raised central part as it grows. The surface of the cap is wrinkled, covered, especially in its center, with a light fibrous coating with a pearl sheen. In dry weather, the edges of the hats often crack.

The pulp is friable, soft, white, later yellowing, with a pleasant smell and taste.

The plates are relatively rare, grown, of unequal length. Their color in young mushrooms is yellowish, later ocher-brown.

The leg is strong, cylindrical, at the base thickened, dense, continuous, the surface is silky-fibrous. 4-12 cm long and 1-3 cm thick. Above the ring, the leg is slightly scaly, yellowish, covered with flakes, under the ring is light ocher, at the base there are remains of a pale purple common bedspread.

He covered the rest : in the upper third of the leg there is a thin film ring of irregular shape, tightly fitting the leg, first white, later yellowish; silky fibers on a hat.

Spore powder is buffy, rusty brown. Disputes : (11-13) × (7.5-9) microns, almond-shaped, warty, ocher.

Ecology and distribution

It forms mycorrhiza mainly with conifers , but also with beech , oak , and birch . In the middle lane it is found on mossy places in coniferous , mainly pine , and mixed forests, especially in blueberries , less often in oak forests; in the north - under dwarf birches. Prefers moist acidic soils . In the mountains it is found at an altitude of 2000 meters. Fruit bodies usually appear in small groups.
It is widespread in Western Europe , everywhere - in Belarus , in Russia it is found in the western and central regions of the European part .
Season from early July to early October.

Toxic and inedible:

  • Some fly agaric ( Amanita ). It differs from them in the absence of whitish scales and the presence of powdery coating on its hat, the buffy color of spore powder (whereas poisonous fly agaric spore powder is white), as well as the absence of Volvo . In addition, in old specimens of the annular cap, the plates are rusty-brown in color, while in fly agarics they remain white until old.
  • Lilac cobwebs ( Cortinarius traganus ) and some other brown cobwebs , many of which are poisonous; however, they only have fibrous remnants of the bedspread on their leg.
