Vasarely, Victor

Victor Vasarely ( French: Victor Vasarely ; 1906 - 1997 ), née Gyёё Vasшarhey ( Hungarian. Vásárhelyi Győző ) - French artist, graphic artist and sculptor of Hungarian descent, leading representative of the op art direction. The son is the artist Jean-Pierre Ivoral.

Life and work

  • 1925 - ends school.
  • 1927 - enters the Poldini-Volkman Art Academy in Budapest .
  • 1928 - studies at the Mukheli studio in Budapest.
  • late 1920s - studying at the Bauhaus with Sandor Bortnik and L. Mohoy-Nadia .
  • 1930 - marries and moves to Paris [7] .
  • 1930-1940 - works in various French advertising agencies as a draftsman and graphic artist.
  • 1944 - begins to work in the genre of painting.
  • 1947 - the art period "Belle-Ile", the master works with round and ellipsoid shapes
  • 1948 - moving to Gord ( Vaucluse department ), the art period “Gord-Crystal”; the artist’s paintings are ambiguous, the master works a lot on the perspective and volume of space.
  • 1951 - the period of "Denfer".
  • 1955 - writes “The Yellow Manifesto” (in fact, the “op-art” program); the kinetic period of creativity, architectonic works, creates sketches for carpets, participates in the design of the film industry, serigraphy.
  • 1961 - moves from Arkul to Anet-sur-Marne.
  • 1969 - Awarded the title of professor at the Higher School of Applied Arts in Budapest. The Budapest Zichi Palace houses the Victor Vasareli Museum.

  • 1955 - Art Critics Award, Brussels; Gold Medal of Milan; International Venezuelan Painting Prize.
  • 1964 - Guggenheim Award, New York.
  • 1965 - promoted to the knights of the Order of Arts and Literature at the French Ministry of Culture.
  • 1965 - Grand Prize at the VI International Graphic Exhibition in Ljubljana; Grand Prize at the VIII Biennale of Arts in Sao Paulo .
  • 1965 - Gold Medal of the Society for the Promotion of Art and Industry, Paris.
  • 1966 - awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of New Orleans (Louisiana, USA).
  • 1966 - Prize at the 1st International Biennale of Graphics, Krakow .
  • 1966 - Gold medal at the II International Symposium of Aesthetics, Rimini .
  • 1967 - prize of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan at the IX Tokyo Biennale.
  • 1967 - Prize in the field of painting, Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh (USA).
  • 1968 - Prize Prestige du Papyr.
  • 1969 - I prize at the II International Graphics Biennale in Krakow.
  • 1969 - The first "Golden Palette" at the International Festival of Painting, Cannes-sur-Mer (France).
  • 1970 - Opening of the Vasareli Fund Museum in Gorda.
