Biography
Born into a family of Irish Catholics. He graduated from Cambridge University , taught at Oxford University , then received a chair at the University of Manchester . He began his career as a specialist in Victorian literature , then he studied English-language literature of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Specialization, research interests
Professor of the theory of culture at the University of Manchester (2001-2008). Since 2008, he has been working at Lancaster University, a professor of English literature. Specialist in Marxist aesthetics, social philosophy and theory of literature. Pupil and follower of Raymond Williams .
