Range of Scientific Interests
Methodology and methodology of historical research ; a history of trade , prices, and nutrition ; agricultural history; a history of urbanization , living standards , inequality and social stratification ; a history of work ethics, social and cultural capital; Russian revolutions of the early XX century ; Europeanization and modernization of Russia in the period from the second half of the XVII century to the beginning of the XXI century .
Mastering the interdisciplinary methodology remains the destiny of individual brilliant minds, to which Mironov belongs. But for many domestic specialists who remain traditionalists and have a distrust of the social sciences, or even their categorical rejection, he is a stranger. [...] The author’s erudition delights and arouses “white” envy (it’s also obvious that only an extraordinary mind can accumulate and masterfully use such a volume of knowledge).

Institute of World History, Russian Academy of Sciences ) [18] .
Key Scientific Achievements
The author of the fundamental monograph “The Social History of Russia of the Period of the Empire (XVIII - Early XX Century) ”. He made a great contribution to the development of methods for using anthropometric data as a historical source [19] . For example, B. N. Mironov showed that the dynamics of the average growth of the male population of Russia suggests that the standard of living in the country over the course of 305 years (1701-2005) has changed cyclically. But in the 18th century a downward trend prevailed, and in the 19th-20th centuries an upward trend prevailed. Russia at the beginning of the XVIII century in terms of biostatus on a European scale was slightly lower than the middle and the entire distance in 1701-2005 was predominantly in the middle, somewhat moving away during periods of declining living standards, and approaching the middle, while not leaving, however, , the average level of socio-economic development [20] .
He proposed an original "optimistic" interpretation of Russian history of the XVIII - early XX centuries. He sees the reason for the Russian revolution both in the presence of subjective factors - the utopian sentiments of part of the Russian intelligentsia, and in the actions of the counter-elite, in particular entrepreneurs who wanted to wrest power from the monarchy [21] [22] . Of the experts who spoke in scientific peer-reviewed journals , twenty-one rated Mironov's work “mostly positively”, eight - completely negative [21] [23] .
Best of all, B. N. Mironov succeeded in statistical research. He showed outstanding ingenuity in posing questions, the answers to which can be found using statistics, and in finding unexpected ways to solve intractable questions. [...] Mironov was able to demonstrate to the reader the truly limitless possibilities of statistics in the knowledge of Russian history.

My concept destroys the established one, according to which everything is determined by the economy, the tsarist regime has exhausted itself, the country was in a state of permanent systemic crisis, a revolution was inevitable because the necessary reforms were not carried out. And so on and so forth. My view of Russian history devalues the work of opponents who have devoted decades of life to this. The most affected, of course, are the older generation, and especially those who, in Soviet times, dealt with the history of the revolution.
