Karel Teige ( czech. Karel Teige , December 13, 1900 , Prague - October 1, 1951 , ibid.) - Czech writer, translator, literary critic, essayist, graphic artist, book designer, art theorist, engaged in architecture, photography, cinema. The largest figure of the Eastern European avant-garde .

Biography and Creativity
The son of the main archivist of Prague. He studied at the Faculty of Philosophy of Charles University , joined the left forces, began to engage in journalism.
In 1921 he traveled to Paris, where he met Le Corbusier and Amed Ozanfant . In 1924 he made a manifesto of "poetry." In 1925 he traveled to Moscow and Leningrad, where he met with Soviet constructivists.
One of the creators of the avant-garde art group " Devetsil " (operated in 1920 - 1930 ), published its magazine ( 1927 - 1930 ). On his initiative, Le Corbusier , Man Ray , Paul Klee , Mayakovsky , Andre Breton , Walter Gropius acted in Prague. In 1929 - 1930 he studied at the Bauhaus . In 1934 - 1938 - a member of the “Czech Surrealist Group”, created by him together with V. Nesval .
In his theoretical works he connected neo-Marxist sociology with psychoanalysis , showed a deep interest in urban studies, the daily life of the city, popular culture and non-professional arts. Translated from the French works of Baudelaire , Lotreamon , Verharn , Apollinaire , Malraux , the works of Louis Delluc , from Russian - the prose of I. Ehrenburg , the articles of N. Bukharin about literature. Author of the books “The Film” ( 1925 ), “Soviet Culture” ( 1927 ), monographs on Archipenko ( 1923 ), Mayakovsky and Russian Futurism ( 1936 ), etc.
After 1948, under the pressure of the socialist authorities, disappeared from public life. Subjected to official defamation as a " Trotsky geek." He died of a heart attack, his archive was subjected to inspection by the secret police.
