Central Mosque (Alma-Ata)

The central mosque of the city of Alma-Ata ( Kazakh. Almaty қalasynyң ortalyқ meshіti ) is the largest mosque in Alma-Ata and one of the largest mosques in Kazakhstan .

Content

History

The central mosque was built on the site of the old Tatar mosque , which had been functioning since 1890 . The foundation of the mosque was flooded in 1993 , but construction was completed only in 1999 . The project architects were Baimagambetov and Sharapiev.

In 2000, the large dome was decorated with ayahs from the Koran in the calligraphic performance of Turkish masters, and high-quality sound reinforcing equipment was purchased. Overhaul was carried out throughout the first floor, a powerful air conditioning was installed, the offices of the chief imam and accountant were equipped with modern equipment, the chairs in the reading room of the Koran were replaced with those made of valuable tree species, and a lawn of 1700 m² was placed. It is designed for 7 thousand visitors. [1] , Zharylgapov K.Zh. The mosque is crowned by a dome with a diameter of 20 meters and a height of 36 meters.

The mosque building is a domed, rectangular in plan volume with a minaret, elongated along the east-west axis. Total capacity (simultaneous) is about 3000 people. The main entrance of the building is solved in the form of a peshtak. The dome is mounted on a two-tiered drum - an octahedron with arched window openings, turning into a cylinder, and faced with blue tiles. The motif of the main dome is repeated in four corner guildas. The walls are faced with white marble. The drum of the main dome is decorated with colored mosaic. The portal inserts of carved marble blocks. Canvas entrance doors are also covered with carvings based on national ornaments. [2] On the southeastern corner adjoins a two-story passage to the minaret, whose height is 47 meters. [3]

In 2001, the building of the Republican Central Mosque was included in the State List of Monuments of History and Culture of Local Importance of Alma-Ata. [four]

Originally, the mosque had a simple blue dome. In 2006, the main dome was decorated with ceramic tiles with floral ornaments. In 2010-2011, ceramic tiles were replaced with a coating of gold plates. [3]

In 2013, specialized courses for the deaf-mute were opened at the mosque. [five]

Coin and postage stamp Central Mosque

On December 22, 2006, the National Bank of Kazakhstan issued a coin “Central Mosque” (quality “proof”) with a face value of 500 tenge made of 925 sterling silver with a circulation of 4,000 pieces in order to help expand understanding of the entire culture of Kazakhstan, to promote the presentation of religion as a peaceful teaching on spiritual and moral self-improvement of personality. The obverse of the coin depicts the coat of arms of Kazakhstan and dotted inscriptions around the circumference of "500 TENGE", "KAZAKHSTAN REPUBLICAS" in Kazakh and "REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN" in Russian . On the reverse: in the center - the image of the mosque against the backdrop of mountains and a residential building, in the upper part - the inscriptions “ORTALY MESHIT” and “CENTRAL MOSQUE”, the trademark of the Kazakhstan Mint and the inscription “ALMATY 2006”, in the lower part - the inscription “Ag 925 31.1 gr. ” [6]
