Blooming Sallo Gymnocalycium
A large spherical, grayish-green stalk reaches a size of up to 30 cm, does not give lateral shoots. Some adult specimens begin to stretch. Flat ribs in an amount of 13 to 22 consist of flattened massive tubercles. Of large, densely pubescent areoles, spines of various lengths grow, usually inclined to the stem.
Radial spines are arcuate, have a color from yellowish and red-brown to almost black. The length of the radial spines is 4 cm. The number of spines varies with age towards a larger number: from 8-10 to 15 or more. After spraying, the thorns turn dark red.
The flower is very wide at the base: up to 4 cm at the time of full opening and almost without a flower-bearing tube, produces a lot of pollen. White to pink flowers.
This species is found on a vast territory in Northwest Argentina , where it lives on rocky soil among low-growing vegetation. The range of this species is very wide, so the view is very diverse.
