Sant Andrea delle Fratte ( Italian: Sant'Andrea delle Fratte ) is a titular (from March 12, 1960 ) basilica in Rome dedicated to St. Andrew.
The church in infra hortes (“Fruit orchards”, hence the name fratte - “forest”, “thicket”) was built back in 1192 , later rebuilt several times. Until 1585, it was the national church of the Scots, then Pope Sixtus V transferred it to the Order of the Minims .
In 1653, Francesco Borromini worked on the church ( apse , bell tower, dome), after his death, Mattia de Rossi continued the work. Inside are the originals of two angels ( 1668 - 1669 ), Bernini's work for the bridge of the Holy Angel : an angel with the inscription INRI and an angel with a crown of thorns.
The Dutch artist Paulus Bohr lived in the parish of the church in the 1520s. Artist Angelika Kaufman and sculptor Rudolf Shadov , as well as Russian portrait painter O. A. Kiprensky, are buried in the church.
