Geography

The area is an area with a length of 65.4 km and a width of 57 km, oriented from north to south. It is located in the floodplains of the Ishim and Alabuga rivers, has common borders with the Ishim, Berdyuzh and Sladkov districts of the region, and in the south with the Republic of Kazakhstan .

The area is 3.1 thousand km². 78 percent of the territory of the region is occupied by agricultural land, 16 percent of the territory is occupied by forests, 3.2 percent - by rivers and lakes, 1.8 percent - by settlement lands.

Animal world

The Kazan region is relatively diverse and is represented by both species of taiga and steppe fauna. In the forests, represented mainly by small-leaved species, moose, marten, colony, ermine, white hare, black grouse, and grouse are common. The inhabitants of the forest-steppe zone are the fox, corsac, steppe polecat, roe deer, and gray partridge. In addition, a wolf, a column, a lynx, and a badger are found in the region from predatory mammals. A small number of wild boars live.

Of rodents, except mouse-like, the muskrat is common; in some places, beaver settlements are found with the old people of Ishim.

The avifauna is more diverse. The most numerous is the order of passerines by the number of breeding species. Of the hunting and fishing species, waterfowl and waders are well represented. Of chicken, quail is common. Common heron, pelican, gray crane; large cormorant lives on large lakes. Most of the species of birds are migratory and for the winter only chicken and a small part of passerines remain.

The ichthyofauna of the Ishim River includes most of the fish species of the Ob River. Pike, perch, perch, ruff, ide, roach, dace inhabit here. bream. gudgeon and others

Many lakes, due to their shallow water and overgrowing, are subject to regular congestion; in connection with it, only crucian carp inhabits them. Some lakes are stocked with peled and carp.

Population

At the beginning of 1913, the population of the Kazan region was 43.0 thousand people, 1922 - 30.8 thousand people, 1932 - 24.8 thousand people.

Over the past 17 years, the population has decreased (1999 - 25.1 thousand people, 2016 - 22.0). The decrease in the number of residents was caused by several reasons, the main ones being a decrease in natural growth as a result of falling birth rates and rising mortality, and an increase in the rate of people moving out of the region.
