Movie ratings

The film “caused a hot response in adolescents, youths and adults” [2] . It was noted that, compared with the leader of the hire of the time, the movie “ Pirates of the XX Century ”, the “Thriller” thriller (1979, dir. Vladimir Fokin) was much more intelligent, ironic and inventive, and several dangerous tricks actors Andrei Tashkov and Boris Khimichev performed here without doublers " [3] .

Journalist and writer Yuri Shchekochikhin praised the film in his detailed review in the magazine “ Art of Cinema ” [4] .

In the film “Detective”, the victory of Yevgeny Kulik in the confrontation with Paleny reveals first of all this, the most important - human, moral - source. <...> And in essence, it’s good that the film “Detective”, being a full-fledged representative of the detective genre so beloved by us, was not limited by its laws, its captive, was not afraid to seriously touch on important social issues. As you can see, all that is needed is to take the matter for real - talented and interested [5] .

He noted that “the plot of V. Fokin and V. Kuznetsov is inspired by the presence of a person, whereas it is precisely this animation that is so often lacking in action-making detective tapes,” the film has “a feeling of vital fullness of action” [6] . “The actor Andrei Tashkov managed to bring his hero so close to us,” wrote Y. Shchekochikhin, “that sometimes the duel ceases to be a duel between a police officer and an old recidivist, it becomes a struggle between two moral systems” [7] . Actor Boris Khimichev, according to the critic, played a role “hard and thin” [8] .

In another article in this magazine, The Detective was also called successful. “It’s good,” it is written in this review, “that the authors do not allow their hero to perform supernatural feats in life, which are in his imagination, but put the young man in circumstances where he must perform acts that require the utmost strain of physical and moral forces” [ 9] .

In this film ... the essence of the specifics of the adventure genre for children is grasped: each picture must carry a moral charge [9] .

A. V. Tolstoy in his book “The Psychology of the Young Spectator” noted that “the hero of the film Zhenya Kulik - unlike the hero of the“ Pirates of the XX Century ”- does not claim to be a superman at all [10] . He singled out the dream scene of the main character, in which the filmmakers “talentedly, with great humor, ironically over the young trainee’s attempts to present themselves as a sort of detective hero а la la Belmondo”, ridiculing cinema stamps.

The heroic act, which Zhenya Kulik finally does, looks much more plausible against the background of these kinstacks, despite the composition of the whole situation: yellow-haired chick, boy - and repeat offender ... But the movie is still a movie, and it is not necessary so that everything is exactly the truth of life. It is important that this be true art. While watching the film “Detective”, the audience empathizes with the hero, wishes him victory and rejoices at it ” [10] .
