Life and work
Raimbaut de Vakeiras lived at the court of his friend and patron Bonifacio of Monferrato . At first he was a juggler , in 1194 he was knighted [2] . His work is characterized by experiments in various genres. Peru of this troubadour-innovator belongs to garlambey (one of the variants of the parody), printmid Kalenda Maya , devinal (mystery song in a dark style ). A medieval commentary on one of Raimbaut’s songs tells the following story: the troubadour spoke about his love for Beatrice, the Marquise of Monferrata in the third person, and she wished that the lover openly confessed his passion, promising him a reward.
Raimbout Wakeiras is attributed to the authorship of 33 songs (eight of them have preserved notes). One of them, [Oi] altas undas que venez suz la mar (BdT 392.5a), translated by A. G. Naiman , is a romance song about a lover who has sailed across the sea, “Waves are high, waves are around”, represented by the genre of the female love song of the Pyrenees troubadours Peninsula - a cantigoy about a friend .
