Story

The main theme of the film is a dramatic love story of a married couple, love “at the limit of feelings”, sketching of the bright characters of a man and a woman. The relationship of the heroes is a kind of love swing , either exalting those who are panting from love in love with clouds, or throwing them from the very peak of pleasure into the abyss of misunderstanding, betrayal and emotional emptiness. Initially seemingly family well-being quickly gives way to marital discord. The swing is swinging so hard that it seems almost impossible to stop them.

He is Captain Makarov ( Andrey Merzlikin ), a fighter of the special forces with the call sign "Sledgehammer". Desperate to dare in the service, physically strong, constantly risking his life and never knows whether he will return home from the next assignment. And at home, he is completely defenseless, loving, caring, patient and all-forgiving.

She is Tanya ( Maria Mironova ), his beautiful and unpredictable wife, a hairdresser who cannot figure out her feelings for her husband. Of course, she loves her “Sledgehammer”, but she cannot live without the drug addict and the bohemian Petersburg party-goer Alexei Kornilov ( Boris Khvoshnyansky ), with whom she is not secretly betraying her husband and, in the end, leaves her husband for her lover, who, according to she said, "disappear without her."

In this explosive atmosphere of boiling family passions, their little daughter Lena ( Polya Isaeva ) grows.

Trying to break up with his wife, Makarov throws himself into the arms of the intelligent and lonely Inna Maksimovna ( Ksenia Rappoport ), a teacher of Lena’s daughter in ballet class, and then leaves for this woman to start a new life with her.

And only after Makarov nearly died on the next assignment, Tanya realizes that she loves him very much, that "she always loved him, only she didn’t know that." And now she has no idea how to live on without her only beloved man ...

Reviews

  • On the site “About the Cinema” ( Ukraine ), the film was awarded 9 stars out of 10, writing: “The picture is solid, powerful, you believe the stories and the heroes from the first minute, the film leaves that pleasant aftertaste and light euphoria in your head, as if from a true works of art. Professionalism in everything: directing, script, camera work, “ Splin ” music. The film is about the nature of love and its strength ” [2] .
  • Ekaterina Barabash from Nezavisimaya Gazeta did not like the film. She believes that “the heroine Tanya must first be shown to a psychiatrist, and only then find out the relationship with her” [3] .
  • Anatoly Filatov’s review turned out to be completely devastating: “Anton Sivers, the director of the film“ Swing, ”is most likely not a person. Because I can’t imagine what it takes to remove the hour and a half turbidity built on terribly beaten-up stamps just to remind people once again that the sky is blue, the grass is green, when dad loves mom, it’s good, and when else mom dad is even better ” [4] .
  • Yuri Lushchinsky highlights both the pros and cons. To the first he relates: the earthiness and vitality of the plot; comprehensible characters whose experiences are sometimes perceived as their own; excellent acting by Maria Mironova; and quite tolerably shot action. But Lushchinsky finds no less drawbacks: annoying throwing of heroes back and forth; Hero Merzlikin does not teach his grief decisively anything, and the consequences of decisions - especially those for which you have to pay the innocent and sincerely in love - are completely ignored by him; the film shows love as “a mania or obsession, but not an inspirational unearthly feeling that makes us better than we really are, and there are more troubles from it in any way than good” [5] .
  • Valery Kichin from Rossiyskaya Gazeta watched the film three times, writing as a result: “Advertising can scare away the viewer. A pity: the film is not quite ordinary. If you still watch it, it will not let go for a long time, it will make you again scroll through what you saw in your memory and even ask questions. Like: “Why are we like that ?!” ” [6] .
  • Oleg Denezhka, in his review on the Kinokadr website, notes the many absurdities of the film, as well as the stereotyped and unsolved character and events: “Characters are indicated by pictograms, events by arrows. Especially violent events - with red arrows ” [7] .
  • Peter Taborov, a columnist for the Afisha magazine, did not see anything positive in the picture except the soundtrack of the Spleen group: “To understand how sick the person who watched“ Swing ”before the final credits, imagine a composition, say,“ Mobile ”, only to everything else, and played by notes sung by a person without hearing, and lasting 84 minutes ” [8] .
