Story

The film tells about the adventures of the daughter of the American billionaire Helen Dodge.

Artistic Features

The film was released simultaneously with the novel published in the Maten newspaper, and therefore “... was ten times more noisy than Fantomas ...” [1]

Louis Gagnier : “... I had to not only direct this film, but also come up with stunning adventures and, moreover, work very quickly. Each series broke off at the most interesting place so that the viewer froze with excitement. And I had to think all the time, “how will it all end”, which was very difficult ... All the time I was constantly pursued by unfinished episodes ... ” [1]

“... By disseminating the“ Adventures of Helene ”with their sequels and numerous imitations, Pate , (...) undermined the foundations of the French film, instilling in the broad audience American tastes ...” ( Sadul [1] )

“... Without the support of the influential newspaper,“ Vampires ”were less popular than“ Adventures of Helen ”, although they preceded the militant Pearl White , which began to appear in November 1915 ...” ( Georges Sadul [1] )

Interesting Facts

  • Louis Aragon o Pearl White : “... These lines are the anthem of the one that the general public, involuntarily making a pun , called Pearl Wit (Pronouncing the English name in the French way, the audience gave it a different meaning:“ Quick Pearl ”) and, thus, gave tribute to both its boisterous energy and its extraordinary beauty ... " [1]
  • From the media: “... Avignon , March 26, 1916 . Three young men named Monicar Louis, Berbigier Hippolytus and Bruin Louis, under the influence of “Secrets of New York”, made four burglaries in the country houses of the mayor, Mr. Debon and Mr. Danguy. In one of the houses, the villains left a note signed with a crooked hand. After the victims turned to the criminal wanted list, the robbers were arrested. They confessed everything ... " [1]
  • Delluk about the film: “... These films are meaningless or, even worse, idioticly made. The authors of the films “Crooked Hand”, “Feats of Helen” or “The Queen Is Missing” unforgivably ineptly took advantage of the opportunities that they possessed. Creating a popular film, they could make it quite modern. But they did not want to. And, trying to please everyone, almost no one liked them ... ” [1]
