Alexander Nikitich Panshin ( 1863 - 1904 ) - Russian skater and figure skater. The first world champion in speed skating in the classic all-around ( 1889 ) [1] .

Biography
Panshin became the first Russian speed skating champion in 1898, winning a distance of 3 versts (3180 meters). In the same year, he set a world record at a distance of 1500 meters - 2.38.0. He became the first in the history of Russia world champion ( Amsterdam ) in speed skating in the classic all-around, winning three distances out of four.
Having ceased to participate in races for speed, Panshin decided, in spite of his age for sport, to begin his career as a figure skater. He became the winner of the first All-Russian championship in the art of skating ( 1897 , St. Petersburg ). Later, he won this tournament three more times in a row (1898-1900).
Panshin perfected the skates for speed running, increasing the height of the skate, the length of the blade, changed the shape of his toe, making the skate wrought. Such skates first made Sestroretsky Arms Factory . They were tested on the lake Sestroretsky Razliv , on the bank of which at 1 Krestovskaya Street (now Mosin Street) house 1, the Panshin family lived.
He was recognized as the Honorary Citizen of Sestroretsk, but the documents confirming this have been lost due to the prescription of years.
At the age of 41, he committed suicide due to family problems.
He was buried at Sestroretsky cemetery , in 2005 the grave was reconstructed [2] [3] [4] .
