History
The club was founded in 1928 and is the oldest existing club in Saudi Arabia . The club was started in 1927 , when a group of young people from Jeddah decided to create a football team in the city, then the name of the club appeared, which emphasized the “unity” of these people. In 1929, Ittihad played his first match. In 1937, Ittihad played his first game against another club from Jeddah Al Ahli , which subsequently became Ittihad’s main and principal rival. Football in Saudi Arabia continued to be unofficial until 1957 , when the Saudi Arabian Football Federation was formed and football clubs became officially recognized. In the same year, the first official tournament was held: the King’s Cup , which was the only nationwide tournament until the creation of the Saudi Premier League in 1975 . It was the King’s Cup that became the first national trophy of Ittihad, which he won in 1958 . In 1982, Ittihad first won the Saudi championship . The main successes came to the team in the 21st century , when the club rightfully became one of the strongest in the country, repeatedly won victories in various domestic and international tournaments, including winning the AFC Champions League twice in a row.
