Juvenal Habyarimana ( Fr. Juvénal Habyarimana , March 8, 1937 - April 6, 1994 ) - President of the Republic of Rwanda from August 1, 1973 to April 6, 1994 .

Hutu by origin. He studied at the University of Leopoldville (now Kinshasa , Democratic Republic of the Congo ), then graduated from an officer school in Kigali (Rwanda). In independent Rwanda, he held a number of senior posts in the army and police. Since 1970 - Colonel, since 1973 - Major General. Minister of Defense and State Security.
In July 1973, he made a coup d'etat , taking the presidency. Head of government since 1974. Chairman of the National Revolutionary Movement for Development Party (NRDR, founded by him in 1975). He pursued a policy of close cooperation with the West.
On April 6, 1994, he was killed along with the President of the Republic of Burundi, Siprien Ntaryamira, as a result of shelling of an aircraft from MANPADS . The remains of the deceased were in Zaire, where they were placed in the mausoleum in Bado Lite. In May 1997, a casket with the body of Habyarimana was excavated and sent by plane to Kinshasa. The aircraft stood in the capital’s airport for three days, then under the supervision of a Hindu priest the corpse was cremated and the ashes buried [4] .
A museum has been operating in the presidential palace of Juvenal Habiarimana in Kanobme since 2009 [5] .
