History
The market segment of player phones began to take shape in the second half of the 2000s.
“Music” phones with improved audio performance were released by Nokia before the advent of the XpressMusic series.
In 2005, Nokia announced a new line of NSeries , which was supposed to produce expensive multimedia devices. The first NSeries devices were Nokia N70 , Nokia N90 and Nokia N91 smartphones. The Nokia N91 smartphone , which went on sale in 2006, was positioned as musical and was quite successful in this role.
Nokia N91 was the flagship of the Nokia product line, that is, the most expensive and functional device of the line; and remained with them until the Nokia N92 appeared on sale.
The device was equipped with a dedicated processor for sound processing, a built-in hard disk, special buttons for controlling the player and locking the keyboard. In addition, the N91 allowed you to connect any headphones with a standard 3.5 mm plug, which was a rarity in 2005-2006.
Experts who tested the N91 noted that it surpasses any other phones in sound quality and is on par with specialized players, surpassing even some of them. [1] There is an opinion that the phones of the next generations (2007-2008), including those produced by Nokia itself, have not surpassed the N91 in terms of sound quality and power.
Some other NSeries smartphones were released in versions of “Music Edition,” that is, a “music edition." In most cases, the difference between the regular version was the color of the case and the delivery set, which added a larger memory card and better-quality in-ear headphones.
Later, the Nokia 3250 appeared , which became one of the most affordable smartphones of its time. The model was positioned on a youth audience, among its multimedia capabilities emphasized musical.
In 2006, Music Editions was replaced by the XpressMusic series.
On September 27, 2006, the Nokia Open Studio event was held, at which the XpressMusic brand was introduced, under which all Nokia's music-oriented products were to be released. [2] Nokia 5200 , Nokia 5300 XpressMusic and Nokia 3250 XpressMusic became the first devices of the series.
The Nokia 5200 was a simplified version of the Nokia 5300 XpressMusic and was not formally part of this family.
The Nokia 3250 XpressMusic was the same Nokia 3250 for which new body colors became available.
In parallel with the XpressMusic series, a line of more expensive NSeries products was developed, which included smartphones or, according to Nokia, “multimedia computers”, which in addition to music had other improved functions.
In September 2009, it was announced that, in addition to the existing NSeries and ESeries, Nokia would launch the XSeries line, which eventually replaced XpressMusic.
