Gorovaldai (Karavalday) lake. 1860
The lake is named after the village of Gora-Valdai ( Russian Varjevalda , fin. Harjavalta ), which stands on its eastern shore. Once on the site of the lake was the lagoon of the Gulf of Finland . Gradually, she separated from him a narrow strip of sand dunes . The lake is stretched from west to east for almost 4.5 kilometers. Its area is 2.8 km². Information about the depth is contradictory - according to some data, it is no more than 5.5 meters, according to others it reaches 15 meters.
The water here is clear. From the very edge of the wall begins a dense forest, billowing along the coastline. Green capes crash into the mirror-like surface of the lake, giving it a slightly broken shape. The shores are almost all over sandy, only at the western and eastern extremities - stony. There was a highway running along the north bank.
Perch , roach , bleak , ruff , pike are found .
