Russian Islamic Institute (Kazan)

The Russian Islamic Institute is the first higher professional Islamic educational institution in Russia founded in 1998.

The founders of the RII are:

• Council of Muftis of Russia
• Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the RT
• Institute of History S. Marjani, Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan

The main goal of the RII is to educate the modern Muslim intelligentsia through the training of specialists in the field of Islamic theology, highly qualified specialists in the field of history, law, language, Islamic economics, designed to serve the Muslim Ummah of Russia.

The dominant religious school adopted at the institute is the madhhab of Imam Abu Hanifah. The Institute is actively involved in the revival of the Hanafi religious and legal school of Islam, traditional for most Muslims of the Russian Federation, with respect for other theological schools.

The Institute carries out educational activities on the basis of state educational standards of higher professional education in undergraduate and graduate programs, conducts scientific research in the field of Islamic theology, carries out advanced training and professional retraining for ongoing educational programs.

RII is the first Islamic educational institution in Russia to receive state accreditation in 2007 from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.

Since 2009, RII has been part of the Federation of Universities of the Islamic World (FUIM) under the Organization for Education, Science and Culture (ISESCO) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which allows graduates of RII to continue their studies at the internationally recognized foreign educational centers of Turkey, Malaysia, Indonesia based on international treaties of the university.

In March 2013, the RII became a member of the executive committee of FUIM.

Today, over 600 students from more than 30 regions of Russia, as well as the CIS countries study at the Russian Islamic Institute. The Russian Islamic Institute is a methodological and methodological center for higher and secondary professional Islamic educational institutions.

RII graduates serve as imam-khatybim in many mosques in Russia, become teachers of Islamic higher and secondary professional educational institutions in Russia and the CIS countries, work in the Spiritual Directorates, in state institutions, as well as in scientific and expert organizations.

The Faculty of Theology was founded in 2002. Students entering the theological faculty qualify as a theologian. In this area, a distance learning department has been opened. Both boys and girls are accepted for training. Duration of study - 4 years. Graduates receive a bachelor's degree. The faculty unites such directions: "Theology", "Islamic Journalism", "Linguistics", "Islamic Economics".

Students who have successfully mastered the undergraduate program can continue their studies under the master's program.

Religious disciplines at the university are taught by graduates of such authoritative foreign universities as Jordan State University, Al-Azhar (Egypt), Al-Bukhari Islamic Institute, as well as RIU and the highest Muhammadiya madrassah.

The Russian Islamic Institute is an important methodological and methodological center for higher and secondary vocational Islamic educational institutions. Research work at the Russian Islamic Institute is carried out in four departments:

The Department of Humanitarian Disciplines unites teachers of secular disciplines (philosophy, psychology, pedagogy, history, etc.). Scientific directions: departments of innovation in the system of secular-religious education, history and current status of Islamic institutions in Russia.

The Department of Islamic Law was established in 2008. Among the tasks of the department are the methodological and methodological support of the educational process. Through the efforts of the staff of the department, training programs on the block of Islamic legal disciplines were prepared. The scientific direction of the department: study of modern financial and legal relationships in Islamic law, research in the field of comparative law, the formation of tolerance and interfaith harmony, theological studies of the Koran and Sunnah based on modern scientific achievements, research on the scientific heritage and traditions of prominent Tatar theologians and educators. The following subjects are assigned to the department: Islamic law and jurisprudence, the basics of Islamic law, the history of Islamic law, the principles of Islamic law, commentaries on the legislative verses of the Koran.

The Department of Islamic Doctrine was established in 2008. Among the tasks of the department are the methodological and methodological support of the educational process. Through the efforts of the staff of the department, training programs on the Islamic faith block were prepared. Scientific directions were carried out within the framework of the following scientific topics: the history of the spread and functioning of Sufism in the Volga region, the correlation of secular and religious in professional higher Islamic education, modern interpretations and comparative studies of scriptures and traditions. The following subjects are assigned to the department: Islamic dogma, religious groups and sects in Islam, the basics of commenting on the Qur'an , the Qur'an (reading and memorizing), hadithology , Koranic studies , the history of Islam , Islamic ethics , Islamic pedagogy, the history of Islamic civilization, the biography of the Prophet Muhammad , methods and rules for reading the Koran, the history of prominent figures of Islam, the history of translations of the Koran in Russia, the methodology of teaching religious disciplines.

The Department of Philology and Regional Studies unites teachers of language disciplines (Arabic, English, Russian, Tatar). Scientific directions: innovations in the education system and their application, relevant issues of teaching oriental languages.

Department of Islamic Economics and Management The Department of Islamic Economics and Management at the enterprise is a structural subdivision of the Russian Islamic Institute, which prepares bachelors in the profile of the “World Economy”, direction 080100.62 “Economics”.
