Orazio Gentileschi is considered to be the best and most talented representative of the Caravaggio school.
Orazio Gentileschi was born in 1563. The son of a Florentine jeweler named Giovanni Battista Lomi. He was baptized in Pisa on July 9, 1563. Having been educated by his brother and uncle in the spirit of Florentine mannerism , Gentileschi went to Rome in 1580, where he paints for the Vatican Library . Around 1600, he is engaged in altar and easel painting, joins a group of artists around Caravaggio. However, in his works he combines the style of Caravaggio with the construction of the composition and the color of the Tuscan school.
From the periods of the artist’s stay in Genoa (1621-1623) and in Paris (1623 or 1624), his paintings were not preserved. From 1625 until his death he lives in England and holds the position of court artist of King Charles I. Draws monumental canvases and performs decoration work ( Greenwich Palace ). In the last years of his life, he copied some of his previous works.
