History
Initially, Beaumont-le-Roger is a seigneur who was part of the Duchy of Normandy . In 1008, she was transferred to the wife of Duke Richard II of Judit of Breton, who presented her to the Abbey of Bern. She owes her name to Roger de Beaumont , nicknamed the Bearded ( fr. Roger de Beaumont ; c. 1015 - November 29, 1094 ) - to the Norman aristocrat, the comrade-in-arms of William the Conqueror , Senor de Wattéville and de Beaumont-le-Roger, Count de Mélan , founder of the Anglo -French noble family of Beaumont . In Beaumont-le-Roger, Roger built the Church of the Holy Trinity.
After the accession of Normandy to France, Beaumont-le-Roger became part of the royal domain . In 1284, the lord was assigned to the youngest son of Philip III, Louis . In 1309, the King of France Philip IV allocated Beaumont-le-Roger in the status of a county to Robert III d'Artois (1287–1342), the lord of Conch. In 1329, the county was elevated to the rank of peerage. After a lost lawsuit (for the county of Artois ) and accusations of forging documents, Robert was deprived of the coat of arms in 1332 and his property was confiscated, including the county of Beaumont-le-Roger.
Due to its proximity to the important airfield created by Germany during the Second World War, Beaumont-le-Roger was repeatedly bombed, resulting in more than half of the city being destroyed during the Second World War.
