History

2015, Inc. was founded in 1997 by Tom Kudirka [1] [2] , who became its president. He assembled a development team of people who participated in the FPS MOD community. After several months of working on the Internet and mainly using ICQ alone, his team created Quake Mod as a demo to showcase their talents. Kudirka sent him to Activision , which was so impressed with their work that he was awarded a contract to develop an add-on to a game called SiN , which, in turn, was developed by Ritual Entertainment .

Headquartered in Tulsa , Oklahoma , where they began work on the SiN: Wages of Sin add-on. Seven developers who have been working online for more than six months creating demos have met each other for the first time. Three of the seven developers lived in an apartment rented by Kudirka, where the living room was made as a development studio. The team consisted of Tom Kudirka, Ken Turner [3] , Zied Raike [4] , Karl Glave [5] , Benson Russell [6] , Paul Glave [7] and Michael Boone [8] , whom Kudirka moved from Tasmania , Australia in Tulsa , Oklahoma . The company collaborated with well-known publishing companies Activision , Electronic Arts and Vivendi .

Currently, 2015 is actually not functioning. Several employees of this company founded the Infinity Ward studio, known for the Call of Duty series . The rest focused on developing casual games at Tornado Studios .

SiN: Wages of Sin

Wages of Sin is the official addition to the SiN game from Ritual Entertainmen t. The game was published by Activision for Windows in February 1999 [9] . Ultimately, more copies were sold than the original game - this shows the level of piracy at the time. During the 1999 E3 ( Electronic Entertainment Expo ) exhibition, Kudirka met with developers from Valve Software . They liked Wage of Sin and they offered 2015 work on an add-on for Half-Life , Valve's mega-hit. Gearbox Software at the time was working on the first Half-Life: Opposing Force add -on . Soon, the terms were agreed upon and work on the second add-on for Half-Life began. To help with the project, Kudirka hired developers such as Steve Fukuda [10] , Justin Thomas [11] , Preston Glenn [12] , Robert Field [13] , Todd Alderman [14] , Earl Hammon Jr. [15] , Brad Allen [16] , John Olick [17] , Adam Bellefulle [18] and Jeff Heath [19] . The development of the add-on went very well. The team developed in a group of very talented developers. They were confident that the second supplement would again exceed all expectations. 90 days later, the project was canceled.

In September 1999, developer Jason West was hired to convince Vince Zampell to join as a future producer [20] .

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault

In May 2000, Kudirka received a phone call from someone claiming to be Steven Spielberg’s assistants [21] . He wanted to know if 2015 would be interested in developing a World War II shooter with a storyline created by Stephen Spielberg . Soon after, the development of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault began . To help develop such a high-profile game, Kudirka hired additional developers, such as Nathan Silvers [22] , Pavel Messerli [23] , Kate Bell [24] , Mackay McCandlish [25] , Chance Glazko [26] , Jason West [27] and Radomir Kuharski [28] , whom Kudirka transported from Katowice , Poland .

The game was published by Electronic Arts for Windows [29] [30] on January 22, 2002 in North America and February 15, 2002 in Europe . The game received good reviews from critics and financial success, given that Medal of Honor: Allied Assault was the first cinematic shooter. The game gave a powerful impetus to the development of the Medal of Honor series from Electronic Arts [31] [32] [33] .

After the release, the development team left 2015 to form Infinity Ward , a studio that became the famous Call of Duty series of games based on the same concept [4] [34] .

Men of Valor

In 2002, 2015 began the development of its own shooter Men of Valor , simulating the battles of infantry units during the Vietnam War [35] [36] . Men of Valor shows Dean Shepard and his Marine Corps from the 3rd Battalion of the 3rd US Marine Corps for 13 missions during the Vietnam War , including missions at the height of the Tet offensive [37] [38] . The scenario is based on historical data, in which the player takes on various roles: the side gunner of a Huey helicopter , a crew member of a combat boat, a “tunnel rat,” and a scout combing through the jungle. Mission types include rescue helicopter pilots, reconnaissance patrols, rescue of prisoners, as well as operations to destroy enemy targets.

Men of Valor was published by Vivendi Universal for the Xbox on October 19, 2004 in North America and November 5, 2004 in Europe . The Windows version was released on October 29, 2004 in North America and November 12, 2004 in Europe .

On April 14, 2015, it was announced that Nordic Games had bought the rights to Men of Valor from 2015 [39] [40] .

Trainwreck Studios

At the end of 1999 , Kudirka created a separate division of 2015, which was named Trainwreck Studios and specialized in the mid-price category of budget games. Several games were released under this name: Laser Arena in 2000 , CIA Operative: Solo Missions in 2001, and Time Ace in 2007 for Nintendo DS [41] .
