Biography
After leaving Lulin, he lived in Luyang , Hunan Province . In 1315, according to the results of state examinations, he received a jinshi degree, and in 1339 he became an academician Hanlin , responsible for imperial decrees.
During the reign of Zhizheng (1341–1368), under the influence of Togto, the emperor Togon-Temur restored the Star of Literature Pavilion, created by his predecessor Wenzong, and often attended his sessions, while scholars, among them Ouyang Xuan, demonstrated here mastery of calligraphy or playing on qing. [1] Ouyang Xuan was engaged in both cursive and italic calligraphy, which he published in Guizhai-chi.
Between 1343 and 1345, Ouyang Xuan, under the official leadership of Togto, played a major role in compiling the official corps of chronicles of the reign of the previous Liao , Jin and Song dynasties , and is best known as a historian, since this corps remains one of the most important sources of knowledge about China of the corresponding periods. Ouyang Xuan also took an important part in the preparation of legislative and legal manuals.
As a representative of the ancient Chinese family of scholars and writers, Ouyang , he not only left a number of his own works, but also made significant efforts to support contemporary writers and to preserve and publish the literary heritage of China. Especially important is the literary Anthology compiled under his leadership of the Pavilion of the Jasper Tables (圭 斋 文集) in 15 volumes.
