Mavrodafni ( Greek Μαυροδάφνη , Mavrodafni ) is a black grape variety common in Achaia (North Peloponnese ) and red sweet fortified wine made from it. Used by the Greek Orthodox Church in the Sacrament of Communion .
Mavrodafni is a dark, almost opaque wine of a dark red color. Contains aromas and flavors of caramel, chocolate, coffee, resins and flowers. One of the few varieties of wine that goes well with chocolate desserts.
One of the wineries producing Mavrodafni is Achaia Clauss.
